The Boursot family has been involved continuously with wine on both sides of the English Channel since the mid-17th century. Continuing in his family's tradition of wine, Guy Boursot worked for 17 years for Berry Bros & Rudd Ltd in London, both buying and selling wines but left them in order to rekindle his family's old wine business of A. Boursot & Co. which he then ran for 11 years.
Guy is a wine writer, lecturer, consultant, wine merchant and vineyard tour operator - and building on his solid and trustworthy reputation, he opened his own wine shop in northern France in 2006.
"Boursot's Wine Collection" is in an attractive 250 year old listed building in the pretty and historic town of Ardres, just 15 minutes south of Calais. Here you can be assured of receiving good, sensible advice and you can taste the wines before you decide.
All wines are personally selected by Guy Boursot to offer great quality for the price. Prices start from 4,40€ / £3.70 and of course offer you the huge savings obtained by buying and collecting in France. Assuming your purchases are for personal consumption you can take or receive these without paying any additional taxes across the EU.
We also deliver across the EU. However, if you wish to have wines delivered in the UK, you will have to pay the taxes imposed by the UK’s new status: £2.23 on each bottle of still and £2.86 on each bottle of sparkling wine, plus 20% VAT on these amounts. The wines still work out less expensive than if you were buying them in the UK but the savings are nothing like as great as they would have been if you had collected them. As the UK’s prices continue to rise, the differentials should increase.
Regarding travel, it has been put about that there are quantity limits when travelling back to the UK but countless customers have experienced that there are no customs checks and nobody has been asked for additional taxes, even when large numbers of cases have been clearly visible inside the car.
Via our account, currently we can get you very attractive prices on Eurotunnel so please ask us if you should like to take advantage.
If you are planning an event such as a party or a wedding, it's eminently sensible to come to Ardres, enjoy a great lunch and pick up some guaranteed quality wines at low French prices. Once discovered, visitors regularly come back to Boursot's in Ardres, not just for their wines but also for a very French experience. The relatively little known town of Ardres has a selection of restaurants, small shops and its own lakes to welcome those who want to get away from the scrums of day trippers that only know about Calais and its hypermarkets and booze bunkers.
Informative yet fun Gourmet Dinners are also hosted in English language in the locality, allowing customers of Boursot's to enjoy a complete and superior wine experience than that generally found in the north of France. See the panel on the right to see details of the next events.
Boursot's Wine Collection also offers a wine receiving service, allowing you to order directly from your favourite vineyards for delivery to its shop, so that you can easily come and collect your wines (still at the French low duty rates).
Escape for the day or the weekend and enjoy some of the finer things France has to offer - and save yourself a fortune!

Sunday 26 October Tasting in the Shop & Lunch at Akène, Ardres |
Lunch at the newly opened Akène restaurant opposite the shop and on the corner of the Place d’Armes in Ardres, promises to be spectacular. Previously called Le François Premier, this was a favourite for so many of you.
From 11.30 Guy will host a small tasting in the shop of some recently arrived wines. This should get us into a convivial mood before walking across the road at 12.30. The menu will show off some innovative cuisine, and alongside the food will be served a further six quality wines. Guy will talk a little about the wines and Inès who owns the restaurant will say a few words about their culinary intentions.
The ticket price for both the tasting and the lunch, all-inclusive is 72€. Please email ardres@boursot.co.uk for more info or to reserve your places. |
Saturday 8 November Boursot’s Wine Dinner at Le Colegram, Palais de la Cathédrale, Saint-Omer |
The next Boursot dinner will be in the new Restaurant le Colegram at the Palais de la Cathédrale in Saint-Omer. This is another restaurant that is receiving rave reviews from French and Brits alike. Its setting is particularly attractive and is immediately opposite the cathedral. The quality of food and of the whole experience are excellent. We have also booked their two bedrooms for the first two couples who ask us. Otherwise of course there are several other hotels in Saint-Omer.
The price of the meal with all wines included will be 95€ per person. Since space is limited, we encourage you to book early on ardres@boursot.co.uk. |
