Because the wines are to be delivered, their prices are different to our shop collected prices because each bottle must be repackaged for safe transport and there is also a contribution towards the very high cost of delivery. There is neither a minimum nor a maximum quantity when sending wines into the UK.

Do please remember that since 1 January 2021 there are new UK government taxes and charges for imports into the UK.

UK duty as well as VAT on that duty, and VAT on the wine value of your consignment, will now be requested by the courier company at the time of delivery, together with a charge for collecting tax on behalf of the UK government. However in France we will not charge you the French VAT on the wine value so at least that part will be taken care of by us.

Even after all these new complications and costs, there are still savings to be had by buying your quality French wines from us. The best savings of course can be achieved by coming to Ardres and taking away what you like: there should be no supplementary charges when taking any quantity of wines back into the UK, when travelling via the tunnel.

This selection forms the basis of what is in stock most of the time. These are all good quality wines and spirits that offer excellent value - especially when compared with their prices charged in the UK. We prefer to show keen headline prices, rather than raise them so as to take off some notional "discount". The euro price you see is the price you pay.

You probably know some of the choices already, but we will of course be happy to explain individual styles - and of course you can taste many of them when you are able to travel again. We have no minimum (or maximum!) order requirement and you can mix your bottles and cases as much as you like.

You can also have your favourite wines sent directly to our premises from the vineyards, so that you can simply hop across to collect these cases, taking advantage of low French prices and you do not pay any UK duty if the wines are for your personal consumption and within current UK limits. Please call or e-mail for further details.

It is always helpful if you can place your order before you arrive. In that way, we can ensure that your order is pulled out of stock and is ready for your arrival.

For years we followed Domaine Octavie in this same village of Oisly, but recently have found this new wine which we believe to be equally good whilst of even better value. Coming from 20 year old vines, the wine is fresh, fruity and not acidic – it’s delightful and can be enjoyed either with or without food. Now regularly awarded gold medals for its quality.

Bone dry but with plenty of smooth fruit - the perfect accompaniment to fish and white meat. Also easy to enjoy by itself, serve it very cool to appreciate its refreshing character. Do not confuse this with some of the boring examples on today’s market, this is from one of the two best producers of the area. Best when enjoyed young and fresh. Picpoul is the grape and Pinet is the town close to Mèze near Agde on the south coast.

This is the only Sauvignon allowed in the Burgundy area and this specific example has a lovely complexity with the minerality of a good Chablis whilst having the freshness of the Sauvignon. It is grown just outside Chablis and is freshand dry but has more softness than most Sauvignons. Fruity and easy to appreciate.

Considering the warmth in this region close to the Rhône, it is remarkable that such a wine can remain so fresh. This is a delicious wine made from old Sémillon, Sauvignon Gris and Sauvignon Blanc vines that has been aged for six months in oak to harmonise the flavours. Because the style is abnormal to the appellation of Entre Deux Mers, the wine has to be "declassified" to straight Bordeaux Blanc - but just taste it and you will see that this is in a superior league of quality. It has exotic fruit aromas and flavours whilst being dry and it is delicious served with lighter foods.

Faller is based in the picturesque town of Ribeauvillé, where many of Alsace’s best Rieslings are produced. Fabulous: from argilo-calcareous subsoil, this wine is bone dry but with plenty of typical Riesling flavour. We always compare Faller’s wines very favourably against Trimbach’s – but at so much better value. This wine is of a Grand Cru quality but of course without its normal price tag.

The owner of the domaine, Richard Maby, is fanatical about opera (as you might have imagined!).

This is simply magnificent Burgundy and, whilst fabulous now, it will get even better over the next 10 years.

In our view, En Remilly is the most attractive of the white wines from the Saint-Aubin appellation. This example is decidedly underpriced for its quality and compares most favourably with wines from "greater" or well-known producers. This is very fine wine by any standards, with a subtle balance of oak and fine minerally white Burgundy flavours. Great to impress your guests without breaking the bank. Bottled in the last days of August 2021, this will start to show its true potential from early 2022.
